Winding Brook Country Club is a family owned and operated 18-hole,
par 70, semi-private golf course. Spanning over 265 acres in
Northern Columbia County, the golf course was designed and constructed
by Paul J. Roth, the grandfather of Al Austin-current owner.
Construction began in
1961 and took two years
to complete. Winding Brook was one of the first courses in the
Northeast to install a complete automatic irrigation system for
fairways, tees, and greens.

The
golf course acquired it’s name from the “winding
brook” that lazily flows through both the front and back
nines, surrounded by large
pines- all of which were
planted by hand, bordering
the fairways and the spring-fed
ponds.
After originally opening as a private country
club, Roth decided to
become semi-private due to rising
operation costs.
In 1984,
Al Austin decided to
join his grandfather in the capacity of Vice President and
Manager, twenty years later, Austin is now the owner and President
of Winding Brook joined by his family; Kathi, Bud, and Katee.
|
Today, Winding Brook remains to be a semi-private course,
taking in outside greens fees and outings to keep the membership
fee down for members.
The
Austin’s pride
themselves in being
one of the few family-owned and operated golf courses
in the area.
They carry
that feeling of family
onto their employees, some of which who have been employed
at Winding Brook for 30 years or more. |
